Training is a core component of the Chartered Professional Mediator (ChPM) pathway. Applicants must demonstrate substantial, structured preparation in mediation theory, skills, ethics, and practice. The training requirement ensures that every candidate enters the assessment process with a strong foundation and exposure to diverse learning formats.
Applicants must complete a minimum of 240 hours of mediation‑related training, documented through certificates, transcripts, or training records. These hours may come from a combination of basic training, advanced coursework, continuing education, and specialized programs.

This foundational training must be taught by a qualified mediation trainer.
A college course cannot substitute for this required 40‑hour training.

- College or graduate‑level mediation courses
